Chapter 110
Vivian Bennett stepped into the PR department and sensed an immediate shift in the atmosphere.
Colleagues who used to order her around now offered ingratiating smiles.
Even Hannah Green toned down her arrogance upon seeing her.
Vivian felt puzzled but showed no outward reaction.
During lunch, she pulled Emily Davis to a secluded corner of the cafeteria.
Emily couldn't wait to speak. "Vivian, you're finally back!"
Vivian lowered her voice. "What happened these past few days?"
Emily's eyes lit up. "You don't know? Manager Hannah got called into the boss's office for a reprimand!"
Vivian raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
Emily leaned closer, whispering near her ear. "Because of you! The boss personally ordered an investigation into the warehouse incident. That employee from the cafeteria who set you up has been fired!"
Vivian froze.
She hadn't expected Liam Sullivan to act so swiftly.
Emily continued. "Manager Hannah had six months' salary deducted. If the VP hadn't protected her, she would have been fired already!"
Vivian pressed her lips together.
This outcome surprised her.
Emily nudged her shoulder. "Why didn't you tell us you had the boss backing you? We were worried for nothing!"
Vivian forced a weak smile. "I don't—"
Emily cut her off. "Don't hide it from me! The whole company knows the boss is protecting you now!"
Vivian's heart sank.
Exactly as she feared.
No wonder her colleagues' attitudes had done a complete one-eighty.
The workplace's harsh reality felt chilling.
Emily lowered her voice further. "Come clean. What's really going on between you and the boss?"
Vivian lowered her gaze. "There's really nothing."
Emily refused to believe it. "Nothing? Then why would he go to such lengths for you?"
Vivian sighed helplessly. "Maybe he's just been bored lately?"
Emily rolled her eyes. "Don't lie! The boss is incredibly busy. Why would he care about something so trivial?"
Vivian remained silent for a moment.
She spoke softly. "Actually, it's not completely nothing..."
Emily's eyes brightened. "I knew there was more to it!"
Vivian sighed. "But it really doesn't count as any kind of relationship."
Emily's eyes suddenly widened. "Did he sleep with you and then refuse to take responsibility?"
Vivian nearly choked on her saliva.
"Stop making wild guesses!"
Emily grew indignant. "Even if he's the boss, he can't treat people like that!"
Vivian massaged her temples. "It's really not what you think..."
