Chapter 47
Vivian Bennett quickly waved her hands in denial.
"Not at all. It was hard for me to transfer to the headquarters. My salary has increased quite a bit. I'm very satisfied with my current job."
Grace Harper looked half-convinced, half-doubtful.
She held her cousin's hand and advised her. "No matter what, you must never offend the boss at any workplace. Otherwise, how can you keep this job for long?"
"I don't plan to work here for very long anyway," Vivian muttered under her breath.
To reassure her cousin, she put on a bright smile. "I know, Cousin Grace. Please don't worry about me."
"By the way, your boss is quite handsome. Does he have a girlfriend?" Grace suddenly leaned in and asked.
A powerful CEO personally delivering a bag to his subordinate late at night.
It certainly looked like he was interested in her cousin.
Vivian feared her cousin would misunderstand, so she had to lie. "The boss already has a fiancée. He gave me the bag purely because he's a good person!"
After saying those last three words, she blinked guiltily.
She hoped lying wouldn't get her struck by lightning.
"He has a fiancée?" Grace was stunned, her tone full of regret.
What a true pity.
She had thought her cousin might have finally met a good man.
But then again, the man outside the door earlier had an extraordinary presence. It was obvious he was either wealthy or powerful.
A man like that would never lack women around him.
"Since he's taken, Vivian, you should keep your distance from him from now on." Grace solemnly reminded her as an older sister.
Her cousin must never become the other woman.
No matter how handsome or rich that man was, she couldn't bear to see her cousin suffer such humiliation.
Vivian understood her cousin meant well.
"Okay, Cousin Grace!" She affectionately looped her arm through Grace's. "It's so late now. Why don't you stay and sleep over?"
"Alright!" Grace agreed readily.
She had just been scolded by her mother-in-law at the Harper family gathering today. She didn't want to go back and face her husband Jason Harper either.
Jason never stood up for her. He always listened to whatever his mother said.
Going back now would only lead to another argument with her husband.
Early the next morning, Vivian ate the breakfast her cousin made and went straight to Hudson Group.
She was not one to admit defeat easily.
She wanted to see how long Zachary Hudson intended to keep up this act.
Could he really avoid her forever?
Sure enough, Vivian was left waiting downstairs again.
She waited from dawn until dusk. Zachary never showed up.
Learning from yesterday's lesson, Vivian ordered delivery directly to the first-floor lobby at noon.
She couldn't neglect her own stomach.
Employees of Hudson Group gradually left work. Zachary still showed no intention of meeting her.
Vivian was just about to go block him in the underground garage.
The security guard had said yesterday that their boss always left through the garage.
Zachary would never use the first-floor elevator when leaving work.
Right at that moment, the receptionist's sweet voice called out to her.
"Miss Bennett, the CEO requests your presence upstairs!"
The receptionist's gaze toward her was completely different now.
All those other women who came looking for the boss had been turned away.
Unexpectedly, she had become the exception.
