Chapter 503
Patriarch Sullivan received the call and hurried to the hospital.
Isabella Sullivan had been moved to a VIP room after her surgery.
Liam Sullivan did not go inside.
He had hired a nurse to care for her inside.
The old man saw Liam sitting outside the room, his expression cold and grim.
He walked over and tapped his cane on the floor.
"How is Isabella?"
Liam looked up.
His eyes were bloodshot.
When the old man met those bloodthirsty eyes, he was startled.
For a moment, he had the illusion that the son who had broken with him and left the Sullivan family years ago had returned.
But clearly, the man before him was his grandson, not his son.
"Grandfather, was it you who instructed Isabella to keep sabotaging things between Vivian and me?"
Liam suddenly demanded.
"You just don't want me to marry her, do you?"
"If you want to get married, I can find you a suitable match from a proper family."
Patriarch Sullivan said sternly.
"But it absolutely cannot be a woman like Vivian Bennett or Crystal Evans."
"I heard that Crystal Evans is pregnant with a Sullivan child?"
"We absolutely cannot allow it!"
Liam looked at the old man with deep, dark eyes.
A faint, almost imperceptible smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
"My marriage, my woman, my child—I will not be controlled by the family."
"I decide what I want."
"Even if you disagree now, Grandfather, you are old. How long can you stop me?"
"Moreover, I am now the head of the Sullivan family."
"I don't need to secure my position through a marriage alliance."
"I will marry whomever I want."
"No one else gets a say in this matter!"
Before the old man could say anything, Liam turned and strode away.
The old man was so angry he nearly had a hypertensive crisis.
Eleanor Sullivan arrived a step later.
She saw how furious Liam had made the old man.
She quickly helped him sit down and patted his chest to soothe him.
"I told you, you're just an old stubborn mule!"
"I'm stubborn? Have you seen the things he's doing?"
The old man gasped for breath.
"First, it's Vivian Bennett, whose family fell from grace long ago, and now it's some escort from a nightclub!"
"I'm also against that escort from the nightclub."
Eleanor Sullivan sighed.
"But Vivian... I think that girl is actually quite good..."
"No."
The old man said resolutely.
"Vivian has too much influence over him."
"Besides, I've opposed her all along and have hurt her feelings plenty."
"If she marries into the Sullivan family, she probably won't be on our side!"
"You old fool."
Eleanor Sullivan glared at him.
"You've never even spent time with her. How do you know if she's good or bad?"
"I'll go test her out another day."
......
After leaving the hospital, Liam got in his car and drove onto the highway.
He drove very fast.
The car window was wide open.
The biting wind whipped harshly against his face.
His mood was heavy.
Before his mother died, she had asked him to take good care of and protect Isabella.
But he had failed.
He had let her become like this.
Her mind had even developed problems.
Liam frowned tightly.
He drove on the highway for nearly an hour before he realized what he was doing.
He got off the highway and turned back.
He got back on the highway and returned to Seattle.
No matter what, he would not let anyone hurt the woman he loved.
Liam drove to the residential area where Vivian lived and parked downstairs.
......
Vivian had been feeling gloomy all day.
It was the weekend.
Her best friend Sophia Miller had invited her to go shopping, but she hadn't gone.
When she was in a bad mood, she just wanted to stay home alone.
Her thoughts involuntarily drifted to Liam.
Did that nightclub escort, Crystal Evans, really have his child?
When he was with her, he always used protection.
He wouldn't casually let a woman get pregnant with his child, right?
Ugh!
He wouldn't casually let a woman into his bed, right?
Vivian shook her head.
She walked to the window, wanting to get some air.
Her gaze inadvertently glanced downward.
A familiar black car was parked downstairs.
A tall figure leaned against the car.
A cigarette was held between his fingers, its red ember glowing and fading in the night.
It was Liam.
Why was he here?
Vivian's heart skipped a beat.
She instinctively took a step back, hiding behind the curtain.
But she couldn't help peeking out.
Liam looked up, his gaze fixed directly on the floor where she was.
Vivian quickly pulled back, startled.
Her heart pounded wildly.
Had he seen her?
Or was it just a coincidence?
Vivian bit her lip, hesitating about whether to go down.
Her phone suddenly vibrated.
It was a call from Liam.
Vivian stared at the name flashing on the screen, her finger hovering over the answer button.
Answer, or not?
She took a deep breath and pressed answer.
"Come down."
Liam's voice came through the receiver, carrying an undeniable force.
"I need to talk to you."
