Chapter 651
"You want to kill us?" Isabella Sullivan's voice trembled.
She stared fixedly at the gun in Vivian Bennett's hand.
"The Sullivan family will never let you get away with this," Isabella gritted her teeth. "Liam Sullivan will be implicated because of you."
Vivian smiled.
It was a faint smile.
"When you're dead, can you worry about so much?" she said softly. "Don't worry. I'll leave a suicide note, admitting to all the crimes. After dealing with Patriarch Sullivan, I won't stay alive either."
She paused.
"A life for a life. Trading my one life for yours is worth it."
This was the best solution she could think of.
To shoulder all the responsibility herself.
Her death could settle everything.
She turned to look at Luna Clark.
Luna had kept her eyes closed.
"However, I won't kill you," Vivian said.
Luna's eyes snapped open.
"Why?"
Vivian looked out the window.
The sky was very blue.
"I was once like you," she said slowly. "Threatened into doing harmful things. I think... I'm not completely innocent either. I've killed innocent people. What's happening today is my retribution."
She looked at Luna.
"You are also very innocent."
Luna's eyes reddened.
"But... if I hadn't lured Liam Sullivan away that night, your child wouldn't have..." she choked up. "Don't you really hate me?"
Vivian was silent for a moment.
"How could I not hate you?" Her voice was very light. "Even if you were forced, everything started because of you. Everything I lost is thanks to what you did that night."
Her expression was pained.
But not crazed.
"So, I'll spare your life, but I can't let you off completely." Vivian raised the gun. "You must endure the pain of one gunshot as your price. Don't worry, I'll aim for your shoulder. You'll spend half a month in the hospital."
Luna smiled.
Her smile held gratitude.
"That's a very small price," she said. "You're still a woman who can't bring herself to be truly ruthless. Go ahead. I accept."
She closed her eyes.
A tumult of emotions filled her heart.
She had thought death was certain.
She never expected Vivian to spare her.
For this woman she was meeting for the first time, Luna felt sympathy.
They were both people toyed with by fate.
Her own situation was at least much better than Vivian's.
Vivian looked at Luna's closed eyes.
The resentment in her heart faded a little.
She raised the small silver pistol.
The muzzle pointed at Luna's shoulder.
She hesitated.
The muzzle lowered.
It pointed at her foot.
A shot to the foot would cause the lightest injury.
As long as the bone wasn't hit.
Police often shoot suspects in the leg during pursuits.
She cocked the gun.
Her finger slowly squeezed the trigger.
At that moment—
The door was violently slammed open.
Liam Sullivan rushed in.
"Don't kill her!" he shouted in panic.
Vivian had just squeezed the trigger.
She was knocked aside by a tremendous force.
Her body lost control.
She crashed hard into the nearby marble table.
The square table corner.
Hit her squarely in the chest and abdomen.
The impact was immense.
She seemed to hear the sound of bones breaking.
Excruciating pain surged through her.
It hurt so much she couldn't even make a sound.
Her whole body was like a broken doll.
She collapsed onto the table.
Liam was breathing heavily.
He glanced at Vivian, motionless on the table.
Then he looked at Luna, bleeding from her foot and moaning in pain.
"Vivian, why did you want to kill her?" His voice trembled. "You're being too extreme. I already told you it wasn't her fault."
He picked Luna up.
"She didn't do it on purpose," he said gloomily. "I'll take you to the hospital."
Luna shook her head.
"No," she said with difficulty. "You should go save her."
