Chapter 447
At the other end, Alexander said: "Alright, focus on your work first." With that, he ended the call.
After hanging up, Alexander murmured to himself: "Sophia, you're so self-reliant, never asking for help easily. But I’ll give you a surprise. For the past six years, you've been as kind and devoted as Noah. Your righteous, single-minded brother took care of you. Now, I’ll take over his role. Don’t worry."
Of course, Sophia couldn’t hear these words.
After the call, Sophia lifted her gaze to Liam. "Mr. Sterling, we just spoke at the café yesterday. What else do you need from me today?"
"Sophia, I have good news—about your brother," Liam said excitedly.
Just last night, after arguing with Charlotte, Liam stormed out and drowned his frustration in drinks at a bar. As he sat there, nursing his glass, he overheard a conversation between two men—one clearly a doctor—discussing something extraordinary.
The doctor said, "I never expected that hospital’s medical technology to be so advanced. I’d give anything to work there, but the standards are impossibly high."
"Which hospital?" the other man asked.
"The specialized neuro-rehabilitation center with cutting-edge simulation tech," the doctor replied.
The other man scoffed. "That sounds like science fiction!"
"Not at all! I saw a patient from Harborview there—a young man named Noah Whitmore. His lower body was paralyzed due to nerve damage, but after treatment, he could stand again. When I left, he was even taking a few steps. He’s in rehab now."
The other man fell silent.
Liam, who had been half-drunk, suddenly sobered up.
He grabbed the doctor’s arm urgently. "Where is Noah? Tell me where he is!"
The two men recoiled in alarm.
"Crazy bastard!" one shouted as they hurried away.
Liam didn’t give up. He discreetly followed them, tailing their car until they checked into a hotel. He waited all night and into the next morning.
Finally, the men emerged. The doctor bid his companion goodbye and headed to work at a specialized orthopedic hospital.
Liam shadowed him, noting his name and shift schedule before calling Sophia—only to find her phone switched off.
Desperate, he rushed to find her in person.
When Sophia heard Liam’s news about Noah, she forgot all about the rumors. She clutched his hands, trembling. "What did you say? You have news about my brother? Where is he? Is he in the country? Take me to him—now!"
Liam hesitated.
Sophia’s voice shook. "Please, Mr. Sterling… take me to him."
Her desperate plea moved even the male colleagues nearby. They saw no flirtation between her and Liam—only a sister frantic to find her missing brother.
Liam nodded. "Alright. Let’s go."
Sophia grabbed her bag and followed him out without even clocking out.
As soon as she left, the male colleagues turned on the gossiping women.
"You women have too much time on your hands," one snapped.
"No wonder you lag behind us in design—you’re too busy stirring drama instead of working!"
"Remember how you spent weeks gossiping about Mr. Blackwood bringing some woman from the countryside? Did you ever even see her? Know her name? No! Yet you spread rumors like it’s your job!"
The men had grown tired of the women’s constant bullying of Sophia. They saw her as hardworking and unproblematic—unlike the troublemakers who targeted her.
The women, including Elizabeth, were left speechless.
Meanwhile, Sophia and Liam arrived at the orthopedic hospital. The doctor was still on duty. Sophia’s hands trembled as she waited outside his office.
When the nurse called, "Next," Sophia rushed in.
The doctor startled at her abrupt entrance. Seeing her tearful but determined face, he softened. "Miss, what’s wrong?"
Sophia choked out, "Doctor… where did you see my brother? Please, take me to him."
The doctor frowned. "Miss, I think you’re mistaken."
Sophia shook her head. "No! You mentioned a neuro-rehabilitation center where my brother is being treated. How is he? Please, tell me!"
The doctor’s expression darkened. He was about to usher her out when Liam stepped in.
