Chapter 173
Vivian Bennett took out her keys and unlocked the front door.
She took the shopping bags from her cousin and stepped aside to let Grace Harper enter first.
"You've been busy all day. Go rest on the sofa. I'll handle dinner," Grace said while rolling up her sleeves.
Vivian felt too embarrassed to let her cousin handle everything alone.
A light smile touched her lips. "It's fine. I'll help you."
She had just picked up an apron when her phone rang.
In a hurry to get to the kitchen, Vivian answered without looking.
"Where are you?"
Liam Sullivan's deep voice came through the receiver.
Vivian froze. "What?"
"Weren't you supposed to wait for me after work?" His tone carried clear displeasure.
He had specifically made time to go to the PR department to find her.
Yet he had come up empty again.
"I'm already home..." Vivian answered softly.
She hadn't actually expected him to come find her.
Was the CEO always this free?
Did he have time to meet women after work?
No business engagements?
"Vivian Bennett, how many times is this now?" Liam's voice sounded almost gritted out.
"How many times for what?" She was confused.
"This is the second time you've stood me up," he reminded her coldly.
This woman was getting bolder.
"Sorry."
Thinking quickly, Vivian softened her voice into a coaxing tone. "I'll make it up to you next time we meet."
Her voice was soft and sweet.
Liam's anger inexplicably faded by half.
"Make it up to me? How?"
Vivian immediately blushed.
She regretted her careless words.
"Grace is calling me to wash the vegetables. I have to go!"
She frantically found an excuse to end the call.
Liam's previously dark expression actually softened.
Ryan Johnson, standing nearby, watched in stunned silence.
What was wrong with the Boss?
One moment he was demanding answers, the next he looked positively pleased?
Of course, he only dared to keep these thoughts to himself.
"Who was that?" Grace asked casually.
"Just a colleague," Vivian feigned calm.
She didn't want her cousin to suspect anything.
"Why did you suddenly want to come have dinner here today?" She changed the subject.
"Your brother-in-law is on a business trip. I was free and thought I'd come improve your meals," Grace said with a laugh.
"Jason is on a business trip?" Vivian was taken aback.
She suddenly remembered what she had seen at the mall that day.
Her cousin's husband laughing and chatting animatedly with another woman.
She must have seen wrong.
"What's wrong?" Grace noticed her strange reaction.
"Nothing." Vivian lowered her eyes and shook her head gently.
Without evidence, she couldn't say anything.
