Chapter 221

Vivian Bennett's female colleagues had all transformed into shameless admirers.

Their eyes were glued to Zachary Hudson.

Whispers and giggles circulated around the table.

Vivian felt a vein throbbing at her temple.

What was wrong with these women?

Had they never seen a man before?

Had they never seen a handsome man?

They were like a pack of hungry wolves, ready to devour Zachary whole.

"Eat quickly, the food is getting cold!" Vivian urgently interrupted their chatter.

Emily Davis smiled sweetly as she refilled Zachary's water glass.

"Mr. Hudson, this clear broth isn't spicy. You should try it." She thoughtfully served him more food.

Zachary agreed verbally, but didn't dare lift his fork again.

The burning spice from his last bite still lingered on his tongue.

Though he wasn't eating, his gaze never left Vivian.

His intense stare was impossible to ignore.

Vivian felt extremely uncomfortable under his scrutiny.

She felt like she was the main course he was eyeing.

She opened a bottle of beer.

She drank by herself in silence.

By the end of the dinner, neither of them had touched their food.

Vivian finished the entire bottle of beer by herself.

Her alcohol tolerance was average, and she was already feeling tipsy.

Zachary paid the bill and naturally moved to support her.

The colleagues tactfully dispersed quickly.

Even Emily slipped away in a flash.

"Emily, wait for me!"

Vivian anxiously tried to chase after her.

Zachary pulled her back.

A heavy coat was gently draped over her shoulders.

Vivian looked up in confusion.

"I'll take you home." Zachary wrapped an arm around her waist, guiding her toward his sports car.

Vivian struggled. "No need, I can get back myself!"

Without another word, Zachary scooped her up bridal-style and placed her in the passenger seat.

She reached for the door handle, but the central locking was already engaged.

The sports car roared out of the parking lot.

Vivian reluctantly gave her address. "Lakeside Manor."

Then she fell silent.

When Zachary glanced over, he found her already asleep against the window.

The coat enveloped her petite frame.

Her short hair covered half of her face.

Soft breaths escaped her nose.

In that moment, she resembled a lazy little fox, completely defenseless.

"Such poor alcohol tolerance, yet you dared to drink so much."

Zachary chuckled softly, his gaze tender.

Vivian woke to find the car parked outside her apartment building.

She opened her eyes to Zachary's handsome face mere inches away.

"Awake?" The corners of his lips curved into a charming smile.

Vivian hurriedly sat upright. "Sorry, I fell asleep."

"I don't mind," he said leisurely.

Vivian didn't understand his meaning.

It was late. She didn't want to stay any longer.

"Thank you, Mr. Hudson. I should go in now."

She reached for the door handle.

Zachary's voice drifted over softly. "Leaving just like that?"

Vivian paused.

What else was she supposed to do?
