Vivian Bennett leaned against the cold door.
Her chest heaved rapidly.
She gasped for air.
Every cell in her body trembled.

Vivian shook her head forcefully.
She couldn't let herself be swayed.
She had to stay clear-headed.
A sudden knock sounded at the door.
Vivian froze.
"What are you doing in there?" Liam's deep voice came through the door. "Weren't you getting a blanket?"
His tone held obvious amusement.
Vivian took a deep breath.
"Almost done," she said, pausing. "Tie your robe properly... don't catch a cold."
A low chuckle came from outside.
"Alright, whatever you say," Liam replied cheerfully.
Vivian frowned in frustration.
She had fallen for his trick again.
This cunning man.
She hurried to the wardrobe.
She took out the spare air-conditioning blanket.
Fortunately, she had prepared an extra one when her cousin Grace had stayed over.
Vivian opened the door with the blanket in her arms.
Liam stood right by the doorway.
She shoved the blanket into his arms.
"Here. Goodnight."
Liam took the blanket.
His brow furrowed slightly.
"Really making me sleep on the couch?" He sounded disappointed.
Vivian's heart softened for a moment.
But she quickly became alert.
Liam suddenly moved closer.
He leaned in to kiss her.
Vivian pushed him away abruptly.
"What are you doing!"
His plan foiled.
Annoyance flashed in Liam's eyes.
He lowered his voice.
"The couch is too small for my long legs," he said plaintively. "I won't sleep well. Would you really let me suffer?"
Vivian remained unmoved.
She pointed at the floor.
"Then sleep on the floor. It's spacious enough."
Liam tried to say more.
Vivian shut the door decisively.
"Goodnight, Boss Liam!"
The door slammed shut.
Completely cutting off his view.
