Chapter 259
Vivian Bennett had just settled at her desk when her phone rang.
Brandon White's name flashed across the screen.
She frowned and answered the call.
"You've been doing well for yourself lately, Vivian."
Brandon's voice carried its usual mocking tone.
Vivian's fingers tightened around her phone. "What do you want now?"
After the hotel incident where Zachary Hudson had intervened, Brandon had been quiet for a few days.
She had hoped he would stay that way for a while.
But he was back sooner than expected.
"I'm short on cash. Give me some money."
Brandon stated it as if it were his right.
Vivian laughed coldly. "I don't have any money."
"Don't lie to me. How can you be broke with Zachary Hudson backing you?"
Brandon's voice rose sharply.
Vivian remained calm. "We broke up."
"Broke up? What a coincidence."
Brandon clearly didn't believe her.
Vivian ended the call.
Emily Davis leaned over from the next desk. "Who was that? You look upset."
Vivian took a deep breath. "A telemarketer."
To her, Brandon was no different from a nuisance call.
He was only after her money.
He thought she had landed a wealthy partner.
This was exactly why she didn't want to make her relationship with Liam Sullivan public.
If Brandon found out about their current situation, he would become even more persistent.
Emily nodded, though she didn't fully understand. She then started complaining about overtime.
Other colleagues joined in.
They all agreed that the big boss, Liam Sullivan, had been in a terrible mood lately.
He seemed heartbroken, losing his temper in the office all day.
The entire Sullivan Group felt tense.
Every department was working overtime continuously.
Many managers still got scolded.
The executive floor was the worst affected.
No one dared to go up there unnecessarily.
Listening to the chatter, Vivian couldn't help but think of Liam.
Was he upset because of her?
She quickly dismissed the thought.
She couldn't be that important to him.
But thinking of Liam made her check her phone.
The screen was blank.
There were no messages from him.
Was he really planning to end things for good?
