Chapter 377
Liam Sullivan brought Vivian Bennett to the Sullivan Family Estate for dinner once again.
Vivian had just set down her fork and knife when she looked up and saw Sylvia Sullivan supporting Albert Sullivan as they strolled slowly through the garden.
Since they had crossed paths, she offered a warm smile and greeted them. "Grandma Sylvia, has Grandpa Albert not fully recovered yet?"
Sylvia shook her head with a worried expression. "His illness keeps recurring because of his heartache. Those two dogs meant everything to him. He just can't move on yet. Perhaps with more time, he'll gradually improve."
Vivian studied Albert carefully. Aside from being somewhat thinner, his complexion didn't appear too poor.
She bid them farewell gently. "Grandma Sylvia, please continue your walk. I'll head back inside now."
Sylvia nodded with a smile. But as Vivian turned to leave, Albert suddenly spoke. "Vivian, could you let me see your jade pendant again? I've been dreaming about it lately."
Vivian paused mid-step, her expression troubled.
Sylvia quickly intervened. "That jade is Vivian's keepsake from her mother. She can't just show it to anyone. You've been obsessing over it simply because the jade quality caught your collector's eye."
She then signaled to Vivian with a look. "Hurry back inside. He's been talking nonsense recently. Don't take it to heart."
Vivian left with a smile, but tension coiled inside her.
Albert had always been narrow-minded and far from kind.
Keeping her distance remained the wisest choice.
As the year drew to a close, Liam grew increasingly busy. He often left before dawn and returned late at night.
Some days, Vivian didn't even catch a glimpse of him.
Tonight, she had just settled into bed when her phone vibrated.
Seeing the caller ID, she immediately answered.
"What are you doing? Not asleep yet?" His deep voice traveled through the receiver, making her ears burn.
She hummed lazily. "I've finished all the important tasks. Just some trivial matters remain."
Hearing her soft voice, Liam's lips curved upward. "Working so hard? Do you need my help?"
"What can you even do?" she teased, suddenly feeling sad. "Liam, it feels like forever since I've seen you. I miss you. When will you be done with work?"
A low chuckle came through the phone. "I asked you to come keep me company at the office this morning, but you refused. Now you say you miss me?"
She rolled over in her blankets. "I really do miss you. Should I come find you right now?"
Liam's laughter grew more delighted. "Sure. I'll be waiting."
After hanging up, she threw on her coat, grabbed her bag, and rushed out.
But as she pushed open the front door, she saw a familiar tall figure standing beside his car.
Her heart skipped a beat. She nearly gasped in surprise.
Liam leaned against the car hood in his black overcoat, watching her with smiling eyes.
