Chapter 453
Morning sunlight streamed through the blinds into the hospital room.
Liam Sullivan slowly opened his eyes.
A doctor entered just then to check on him.
"The surgery was successful. The finger bones were set well." The doctor reviewed the medical chart. "The injury isn't too severe. With proper rest, you should recover quickly."
Liam nodded absently.
The doctor frowned. "Based on the injury, it looks like your fingers were forcibly broken by external force. I suggest you report this to the police. Such intentional harm must be investigated."
Liam rubbed his temple wearily.
He looked at the doctor with an amused smile. "What if I told you I broke them myself? Would you believe me?"
The doctor stared at him in shock. "Sir, that's not a funny joke."
"I'm not joking." Liam lifted his heavily bandaged hand with a sigh. "The woman I love said she wished my fingers would break when she was angry. So I broke them. But she still threw me out in the end."
The doctor looked at him as if he were a monster. "I recommend you get a psychiatric evaluation. This clearly indicates self-harm tendencies."
He turned and stormed out angrily.
Liam watched the doctor's retreating back, a self-mocking curve forming on his lips.
Even the doctor didn't believe his truth.
He leaned back against the hospital bed, his gaze distant.
He was utterly bored.
He picked up his phone and dialed that familiar number.
The call rang only twice before being disconnected.
Liam narrowed his eyes at the screen.
She dared to hang up on him.
He stubbornly called again.
Several attempts were directly rejected.
He was certain she was doing it on purpose.
Rage instantly flooded his heart.
He quickly typed a text: Why aren't you answering my calls?
The reply came quickly: You said not to answer calls from men. I'm being obedient.
Liam was immediately infuriated.
This was clearly retaliation for his warning before he left.
He typed rapidly with one hand: Since when are you so obedient? Why don't you listen when I tell you other things?
His phone vibrated soon after: The conference organizers will have male colleagues contact me. Should I not answer any calls at all?
Liam snorted coldly: Have the conference organizers assign female colleagues to contact you.
Vivian Bennett replied: Why would they make special arrangements for such a small matter?
Liam typed tyrannically: I don't care.
Vivian stopped responding.
But Liam refused to give up, sending several more messages in a row.
The number of unread messages on his phone screen kept growing.
