Chapter 469

Liam Sullivan's chest heaved violently.

Days of accumulated depression and agony erupted at this moment.

His eyes burned crimson, fixed intensely on the figure lying with her back to him on the hospital bed.

"Vivian Bennett, what madness possessed you tonight?"

His voice was hoarse, each word gritted out between his teeth.

"I gave you roses, and you threw them on the ground."

"I cooked dinner for you myself, and you left without taking a single bite."

"At the gala, I patiently socialized for your sake, dealing with people I had no interest in. The moment I turned around, you were gone."

"I searched the entire city to find you at the hospital, and you coldly tell me it's none of my business."

Liam slammed his fist against the wall.

"Vivian, is your heart made of iron? Or do you simply not have one?"

The figure on the bed finally stirred.

Vivian slowly pushed herself up.

She turned her face toward him. Her pale features looked almost translucent under the lights.

Those always affectionate eyes were now cold as ice.

"Who asked you to do any of that?"

Her voice was soft, yet sharp as a blade.

"Who wanted you to do those things?"

Liam's face instantly lost all color.

He looked at her icy expression, feeling as if his heart were being brutally squeezed.

"You think putting on a gentle, devoted act would move me?" Vivian's lips curled into a mocking smile. "What game are you playing this time? A new way to torment me?"

She remembered the blonde woman pressed against him.

She remembered how he leaned down to kiss her.

Her stomach churned violently.

"If it's not sincere, why put on this hypocritical performance?"

His entire body trembled from her words.

He stepped closer to the bed, pain and fury swirling in his eyes.

"Vivian, you are truly an idiot."

His voice dropped to a terrifying low.

"If I, Liam Sullivan, wanted to play with someone, a snap of my fingers could make their life hell."

"Would I need to humble myself like this? Endure being wounded by you over and over, still shamelessly clinging to you?"

He grabbed her shoulders, his grip so forceful it nearly crushed her bones.

"I love you so pathetically, offering my heart for you to trample. What more do you want from me?"

Vivian lifted her face, tears streaming down silently.

She looked at the man before her.

The man she loved to the depths of her soul, and hated to the marrow of her bones.

"You love me?"

She suddenly laughed, tears flowing even harder.

"You love me, so you kiss that blonde woman at the gala?"

"You love me, so you take me by force against my will?"

"You love me, so you sleep with your so-called sister while being with me?"

Her voice shook so badly she could barely continue.

"Liam, do you find this particularly thrilling? Particularly amusing?"

Liam's pupils constricted violently.

He stared at her as if seeing her for the first time.

"What did you say?"
