Chapter 488

Vivian Bennett gasped sharply.

A stinging sensation washed over her, cold and piercing.

She furrowed her brow and groaned softly.

Liam Sullivan's expression darkened like storm clouds.

He spoke coldly. "You said you were fine. Now you feel the pain?"

Vivian pressed her lips together wisely.

She chose not to argue further.

Liam carefully applied an ice pack to her face.

He continued until the swelling on her cheek gradually subsided.

Then he gently applied medicinal ointment.

They lay together on the large bed, holding each other.

Vivian nestled in his embrace.

She remembered the figure that appeared just before she lost consciousness.

He was alone but charged forward without hesitation.

She spoke softly. "Liam, when did you arrange for my protection? That bodyguard did his best today. Please don't blame him. The situation was chaotic. He rushed to my side without hesitation. He took all the blows meant for me. Chairs and clubs struck him, but he never made a sound."

Liam tightened his arms around her.

Even injured like this, she was still concerned about others.

His heart ached with both tenderness and anger.

He commanded in a deep voice. "Close your eyes. Don't speak."

Vivian watched his furrowed brow.

She gently smoothed the wrinkles on his forehead with her fingertips.

She continued, daring to speak again. "Liam, please don't be angry. This is just how this industry is. I was prepared for it."

Liam hated seeing her like this most of all.

She was the victim, yet she made excuses for others.

He suddenly lowered his head and captured her lips.

The kiss carried a punishing intensity.

Vivian could feel his rage.

She wasn't trying to excuse her attackers.

She just didn't want him to worry excessively.

Ignoring the pain in her face, she wrapped her arms around his neck.

She returned his kiss.

Their passionate kiss deepened and spread between them.

It was a long time before Liam forced himself to pull away.

They held each other, breathing heavily.

They listened as each other's heartbeats gradually steadied.

Vivian found a comfortable position in his arms.

She slowly drifted into sleep.

After confirming her breathing was even, Liam gently moved her leg.

He covered her with the lightweight blanket and left the bedroom.

His phone rang the moment he entered the living room.

His gaze turned icy as he answered. "Speak."

Ryan Johnson's voice trembled. "President Sullivan, we found out. It appears Miss Isabella was behind it. But the perpetrators won't talk. We don't have solid evidence yet."

Liam's knuckles turned white.

His eyes darkened like frozen pools.

He never expected Isabella Sullivan to be so vicious.

This was clearly an attempt on Vivian's life.

Fortunately, he had arranged for protection in advance.

Otherwise, the consequences would have been unthinkable.

A wave of fear washed over him.

It felt like ice water had been poured over him from head to toe.
