Chapter 516
Vivian Bennett crept toward the main house.
She had just climbed in through a window when she saw Isabella Sullivan and several thugs holding Patriarch Sullivan hostage.
A gun was pointed at Liam Sullivan.
Patriarch Sullivan was so furious his eyes were bulging, and his beard trembled.
Liam stood in the center of the hall, his own gun aimed at Isabella's heart.
His face was pale as paper, but his eyes were cold as ice.
His gun hand was steady, yet it trembled slightly.
Vivian could feel his rage and sorrow.
Who could have imagined he would one day point a gun at his own sister.
He still had feelings for Isabella.
Otherwise, he wouldn't be this angry, this disappointed.
He probably never expected Isabella could be this heartless.
Suddenly, Vivian understood.
He wasn't truly cold-blooded.
If he were, Isabella wouldn't have lived to see this day.
He had given her too many chances already.
But Isabella kept pushing his limits.
Vivian suddenly realized why Liam was so ruthless in his dealings.
Because others had been ruthless to him. He was used to it, so he was ruthless in return.
"Put the gun down!" Isabella shrieked. "Can't you see I have Grandpa? I said put it down!"
She stared nervously at Liam, her voice tinged with panic and frustration.
She had originally used Patriarch Sullivan's trust to incapacitate the security personnel at the old estate.
Then she replaced them with thugs she had bought.
She had drugged the dinner and tea, intending for Patriarch Sullivan to serve it to Liam.
She thought it would be easy.
But Liam was too alert. He hadn't touched any of it.
When the soft approach failed, Isabella had to resort to force.
She grabbed Patriarch Sullivan.
And so, the situation had reached this point.
Liam let out a cold laugh. "Do you really think you can escape? I knew about your plan all along."
His gaze was sharp as a blade, fixed on Isabella.
His tone dripped with sarcasm.
Isabella jolted, disbelief written all over her face. "Stop bluffing! How could you possibly know my plan? You couldn't have noticed my movements!"
She gritted her teeth. "Stop pretending. Reinforcements aren't coming. If you don't agree to my terms today, you won't leave this house alive. Grandpa will die too. You're so filial. Can you just stand by and watch him die? He's one of the few family members you have left in this world!"
Liam's lips curved into an even more mocking smile. "He's one of my few family members. Then what about you, Isabella? What exactly are you?"
Isabella flinched.
It was as if those words had stabbed her.
Her face gradually twisted.
Hatred flashed in her eyes. "Don't say that! I'm not your real sister! I share no blood with the Sullivan family!"
Liam listened expressionlessly.
His grip on the gun tightened.
"Our whole family treated you as one of us," he said suddenly.
"Shut up!" Isabella screamed like a madwoman, glaring at him with hatred. "A family member with no inheritance rights? A puppet-like family member? In your Sullivan family, I've lived my whole life depending on your charity! What exactly am I?"
"Would you really kill me?" Liam's lips moved slightly, his gaze piercing as if it could see through her heart. "What about your child? Even if you don't consider us family, Leo is your own flesh and blood, isn't he? What would you do if he died?"
