Chapter 564

Liam Sullivan was far too astute not to see through her thoughts.

Yet, watching her tormented and conflicted expression, aside from waiting for tomorrow's test results, he found himself at a loss for words of comfort.

Her origins were a tangled mystery, and its solution was not something an outsider like him could unravel with a few simple phrases.

He frowned, his gaze fixed on her slightly haggard back as she slowly retreated toward the bedroom, leaving only a silent sigh in his heart.

The next morning.

When Liam awoke, the space beside him was empty.

His heart clenched. He hurried downstairs, but the entire villa was silent, with no trace of her.

Panic suddenly gripped his heart, making his breath catch.

Where could she have gone so early?

He rushed into the surveillance room. The footage showed that at five in the morning, that slender figure had fled in haste, her retreating form looking desolate.

Liam's face darkened. He grabbed his phone and dialed her number.

A cold, automated female voice answered from the receiver. "The number you have dialed is currently switched off."

He redialed again and again, but the voice only grew colder and more mechanical with each attempt.

An unprecedented sense of dread washed over him—where on earth had she gone?

Ryan Johnson had just woken up when he received Liam's call.

The voice on the other end was low and icy. "Find Vivian Bennett. Now."

The call ended abruptly.

Ryan's sleepiness vanished instantly. He swiftly began tracing Vivian's movements after she left the villa.

Half an hour later, the information was relayed back to Liam.

The man stood before the floor-to-ceiling window in the living room. The morning light gilded his tall, straight frame, but it couldn't warm the chill surrounding him.

Knowing her location eased his anxious heart slightly.

Rather than letting her suffer alone in the villa, perhaps it was better for her to go out. At least Sophia Miller could keep her company and talk to her.

Liam dialed Sophia's number, his expression unreadable.

Sophia wasn't surprised to receive the call. An hour earlier, Vivian, pale-faced and dazed, had knocked on her door, dark circles under her eyes clearly indicating a sleepless night.

She hadn't expected this usually aloof and distant man to be so meticulous about Vivian, not only urging her to persuade Vivian to eat but also insisting she ensure Vivian got proper rest.

He was truly going to great lengths.

Sophia took Vivian's cold hand, her brow furrowed with concern. "Vivian, what happened to you?"

Vivian opened her mouth, but the words died on her lips.

Sophia's expression turned serious. "Did you have a fight with Liam?"

Vivian forced a bitter smile. "No, I'm just feeling down. I came to see you."

Sophia snorted. "Who are you trying to fool? You definitely had a fight! What couple doesn't have arguments? You just stay here with me. Let him sweat a little..."

The絮叨的话语钻进耳中, but Vivian's heart ached even more.

If only it were just a fight.

He treated her so well; how could he bear to see her upset?

The thought that they might be reaching the end cut through her like a knife. What else could she do but leave?

Vivian stayed at Sophia's place until noon. After lunch, she insisted on leaving.

No matter how Sophia tried to persuade her to stay, she shook her head in refusal.

She felt like an empty shell, wandering aimlessly on the bustling streets filled with traffic.

Until a powerful force yanked her from behind, pulling her back several stumbling steps.

A screech of brakes exploded near her ear.

A heavy truck came to a halt right where she had been standing moments before.

The window rolled down, revealing the driver's grim face. He glared at her, his teeth gritted. "Trying to get yourself killed?!"

After shooting her a fierce look, the truck sped away.
