Chapter 663
One spent all day crouching outside the hospital room, stealing glances.
The other spent all day inside the room, lost in thought, seemingly detached from the world.
No matter how you looked at it, it was a heartbreaking sight.
Everyone in the hospital knew.
There was a devoted man who crouched outside a certain room every day.
Separated by a single wall, he silently watched over his beloved.
Another half-month passed.
Vivian Bennett's condition had improved significantly.
She was already able to get out of bed and walk around.
But she had no desire to leave the room.
She spent her days just staring blankly from her hospital bed.
No one knew what she was thinking.
But when she did speak occasionally, her words were coherent and logical.
She showed none of the mental health issues Sophia Miller and the others had worried about.
One morning, however, she had someone call Sophia Miller and the others, asking them all to come.
This was the first time she had initiated contact with them.
Sophia Miller and Oliver Winston were overjoyed.
They saw it as a good sign.
Perhaps she was starting to slowly emerge from her shell.
The hospital room was quiet.
Sophia Miller, Oliver Winston, and Ethan Roscente gathered around the bed.
They were all curious about why Vivian had summoned them.
"I asked you all here today to announce something."
Her thin face was still very pale.
The two severe traumas had deeply damaged her health.
She would likely suffer from chronic chest pain for the rest of her life, a lasting reminder.
"I'm checking out of the hospital."
As soon as she spoke, Oliver Winston's expression changed.
His gaze involuntarily drifted toward the door.
"Vivian, what are you talking about?" Sophia said with concern. "You're not fully recovered yet. You need to stay in the hospital for continued treatment. That's the only way to heal properly. Leaving can wait."
But Vivian's expression was resolute.
"I've made my decision. I'm leaving today. I'll handle the discharge procedures myself. No need to trouble you."
Sophia wanted to protest further.
Oliver Winston gave her a look to stop her.
"That's fine," Oliver said. "Actually, recuperating at home might be better. The hospital environment can be depressing. We can arrange for private doctors and nurses to care for you at home. It'll be just as effective."
Vivian looked up at him with indifference.
"Thank you for all your care up until now. But after I leave, I don't plan to return to the villa. That's not my home. I want to go back to my own place. I want to live alone."
Her words shocked everyone.
They exchanged bewildered glances.
Oliver said seriously, "Vivian Bennett, I know you're not in a good place mentally and don't want to go back. But your health is still fragile. You need someone to look after you. How about this? You can move in with Sophia Miller."
"Yes, Vivian!" Sophia said happily. "Come live with me! I might not know anything about housework, but I'll try my best to learn how to take care of you. We can talk more often, go shopping together, buy pretty clothes."
But Vivian's expression grew even colder.
She said impatiently, "Didn't you understand what I said? I said I want to live alone from now on. What that means is, I hope you all will stop bothering me and disrupting my life."
Her cold, heartless words stunned everyone.
Sophia looked utterly bewildered and at a loss.
"Vivian, what are you saying? How could we be bothering you? We're just concerned about you. Do you mean you don't want anything to do with us anymore?"
"Yes," Vivian said. "I don't want any further connection with any of you. Please don't appear in front of me again. I'm utterly sick of this life. Stop pretending to care. Just stop."
Her eyes held clear disgust.
Ethan Roscente, who had been listening, finally erupted.
He had never held much fondness for Vivian.
Hearing her hurtful words now only fueled his anger.
"Vivian Bennett, you've gone too far. Don't think that just because you're a patient, because you've been hurt, you can say whatever you want. We've been genuinely good to you, and this is how you repay us? Heartless. I think everything that's happened to you is exactly what you deserve. You're a woman without a heart. You deserve it."
