Chapter 678
She truly did not want to see this girl walk down the same path she had.
Luna Clark finally smiled.
Her smile held a sense of release.
She said softly, "I don't know why you think I might fall in love with him. But I can say for sure, I won't."
She paused, her gaze clear.
"If it's possible for you to love someone, even if that person is your enemy, when you face them, whether it's hatred or affection, at least you feel they are different from others."
"But in my eyes, Brandon White is no different from a stranger."
"If I can leave this place, I think I'll forget him very easily."
Vivian Bennett looked at her in surprise.
A myriad of emotions surged in her heart.
"If I had been as strong-willed as you, I wouldn't have ended up in this situation today."
Seeing that Luna felt absolutely nothing for Brandon, she suddenly felt a twisted sense of satisfaction.
Brandon had encountered a woman who simply didn't care about him at all.
The one who should truly be suffering was Brandon.
"At least it shows you really had feelings for him," Luna said. "Actually, he loved you very much too."
Luna felt she owed Vivian a great debt.
She decided to confess the truth.
"Brandon White sent me to sabotage your relationship. But I felt I could never succeed."
"Even with this body and face, even with the powerful identity of 'the former lover,' his attitude toward me wasn't one of joy or excitement."
"He never looked at me with gentle eyes."
"The reason he saved me time and again was simple—just out of guilt."
Vivian smiled bitterly.
Her smile was full of bitterness.
"You don't understand. There are too many problems standing between us."
"If there had been a little more trust, we wouldn't have ended up like this."
She recalled some past events.
Her eyes dimmed.
"Do you know what I was thinking when he carried you away from the apartment that time?"
"I told him I was injured too, and asked him to come see me."
"But he didn't believe me at all."
"In that moment, I realized there had never been any trust between us. A single sentence could destroy our relationship."
"That kind of love is despairing."
"So, love alone isn't enough to last a lifetime. A relationship needs love, but marriage needs so much more."
"And between the two of us, apart from love, everything else was too fragile to withstand anything."
"Separating was the right choice."
"Together, if life was calm, maybe it would have been fine. But once something happened, the fragility between us would always be exposed."
Luna listened with a sigh.
She had originally intended to persuade Vivian.
But she found that even telling the truth was actually useless.
Vivian's heart understood everything more clearly than anyone.
"No wonder I always see people who love each other but ultimately can't stay together," Luna said. "So that's how it is."
"If I ever love someone in the future, then I will trust him completely. I won't let this kind of tragedy happen."
She felt she had learned a lesson.
"I believe you will," Vivian said. "Your heart is very clear. No wonder you weren't swayed by Brandon White."
"Vivian," Luna suddenly asked, "do you want to go back?"
"Of course I do," Vivian said firmly.
There was not a trace of hesitation in her eyes.
"I understand," Luna said, a flicker in her eyes.
An idea crossed her mind.
That very night.
News came that Luna Clark had committed suicide.
Brandon White was thrown into complete disarray.
His expression was furious and shocked.
He looked utterly unable to accept it.
He held Luna's body, shaking it like a madman.
Full of hatred and pain.
For a woman who would rather die than be with him, he was probably severely shaken.
After all, he did have some complicated feelings for Luna.
This was probably just reaping what he sowed.
Trying to scheme against everyone, only to have the scheme backfire on himself.
The result of that night was that Brandon White was deeply traumatized by Luna's death.
This, however, allowed Liam Sullivan to easily rescue Vivian from his grasp.
Liam Sullivan took Vivian back to the villa for treatment.
She did not resist.
Because she knew resistance was futile.
After this incident, Liam Sullivan would definitely not let her live alone again.
Even if he had to tie her up, he would bring her back.
She knew his temper well.
But he was quite tactful.
He did not move Vivian's things back into his room.
Instead, he let her have a room to herself.
