Chapter 78
Emily Davis frowned and lowered her voice. "Vivian, is Hannah Green always targeting you?"
Vivian Bennett lowered her lashes. "I've only been here a few days. I truly don't know what I did to upset her."
She suddenly remembered the incident where she had rejected Zachary Hudson.
Could Hannah be holding a grudge because of that?
Emily sighed. "We're both new here. How could you possibly have offended her?"
She hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Hannah is Isabella Sullivan's person... If you've crossed her, your days here will be difficult."
Vivian's head snapped up. "Isabella Sullivan?"
"Yes, the whole company knows." Emily dropped her voice even further. "That's why no one dared to speak up for you earlier."
Vivian's fingers trembled slightly.
So that was it.
Isabella had witnessed that ambiguous scene between her and Liam Sullivan.
Now she was settling the score.
Emily ventured cautiously, "You didn't... offend Isabella, did you?"
Vivian pressed her lips together tightly.
If Isabella was convinced she was seducing Liam, this was a charge she could never clear.
"Isabella is usually so gentle. She doesn't seem like the type to target anyone," Emily murmured to herself.
Vivian wished she was just overthinking it.
But if Isabella hadn't given the order, why would Hannah go out of her way to make things difficult?
A heavy feeling settled in her heart.
If Isabella truly intended to make her life miserable, could she even stay at Sullivan Group?
Over the weekend, Grace Harper called Vivian, inviting her home for a meal.
Vivian gathered her emotions and went to meet them.
But when the door opened, Jason Harper emerged from the kitchen wearing an apron, a wide smile on his face.
Vivian was stunned.
Had her cousin and her husband reconciled?
Grace brought dishes to the table, her eyes smiling. "Vivian, Jason made sweet and sour fish especially for you."
Vivian found it hard to believe.
Jason never did housework.
In the past, he only cooked to show off when his parents visited.
What was going on today?
Jason walked over, wiping his hands. "Vivian, try it. See if my skills have gotten rusty."
Vivian looked at the plate of sweet and sour fish. It was golden and crispy, the sauce thick and glossy.
It was her favorite flavor.
Yet, an inexplicable sense of unease prickled at her.
