Chapter 332
Her phone rang urgently.
Vivian Bennett answered the call.
The calm voice of a nurse from City Central Hospital spoke from the other end.
She was informed that her cousin, Grace Harper, was being resuscitated in the emergency room.
Vivian’s face instantly turned pale.
Her fingers tightened unconsciously.
She stood up abruptly. "My cousin is in trouble! She's in the emergency room!"
Liam Sullivan immediately set down the documents in his hand.
He steadied her trembling shoulders with a calm demeanor. "Don't panic. I'll take you there."
He quickly arranged for the driver to prepare the car.
He personally escorted her out of the office.
The atmosphere in the car was oppressive.
Vivian clutched the hem of her clothes tightly.
Her mind kept flashing images of her cousin's gentle, smiling face.
She couldn't understand it.
How could someone as strong as her cousin suddenly end up in the emergency room?
When they arrived at the hospital, the light above the emergency room was still on.
Vivian grabbed a passing nurse and urgently asked for information.
Only then did she learn that her cousin had been admitted after a suicide attempt.
A chill ran through her body.
She nearly lost her balance.
Liam promptly supported her waist.
He pulled her into his embrace.
Vivian's voice trembled. "How could she try to kill herself..."
The answer was painfully obvious.
Jason Harper's betrayal and relentless pressure had pushed her cousin to the brink.
The thought of her cousin's husband currently frolicking with his mistress while her cousin lay in the emergency room fighting for her life made Vivian's blood boil with rage.
Her nails dug deeply into her palms.
Liam held her icy cold hand firmly.
He comforted her in a low voice. "Don't be afraid. I've already contacted the hospital director."
His steady voice slightly eased her anxiety.
Vivian leaned against his chest.
She tried hard to steady her breathing.
The emergency room doors finally opened.
The doctor emerged, removing his mask.
Vivian immediately stepped forward. "Doctor, how is my cousin?"
The doctor's expression was grave. "Her life is saved, but..."
He paused. "The patient shows signs of mild depression."
Vivian stood frozen in place.
Depression?
Her cousin had depression?
She never imagined her cheerful cousin could suffer from a psychological illness.
Liam calmly pressed for details. "Can it be confirmed?"
The doctor shook his head. "We need to wait for the patient to wake up for a thorough examination."
After thanking the doctor, Vivian hurried to the hospital room.
Grace Harper lay quietly on the bed.
Her face was as pale as paper.
She looked like a porcelain doll that would shatter at the slightest touch.
Vivian gently held her cousin's cold hand.
Her eyes instantly welled up with tears.
