Chapter 60
Vivian Bennett rushed into the restroom.
Her high heels echoed through the empty hallway.
She locked the door and leaned against the cold tile wall, breathing heavily.
The woman in the mirror had flushed cheeks, moist eyes, and slightly swollen lips.
She barely recognized herself.
Her fingertips brushed her warm cheek, as if she could still feel Liam Sullivan's heated breath.
"Get a grip!" she scolded her reflection.
Cold water splashed her face, but it couldn't extinguish the restless fire within.
Unwanted images flooded her mind.
Liam's slender fingers, his deep voice, his burning body heat.
It overlapped with memories of that night.
"Impossible..." She shook her head hard, trying to dispel the absurd thought.
Water droplets fell from her hair, leaving dark marks on the counter.
She took several deep breaths before her heartbeat finally calmed.
As she prepared to leave, she realized something was wrong.
Her shirt button had popped open, revealing too much skin.
She couldn't be seen like this.
Frowning in frustration, she remembered she still had to work overtime. Going home to change was impossible.
After a moment's hesitation, she quietly pushed the restroom door open.
The hallway lay silent, illuminated only by dim emergency lights.
He must have left by now.
She tiptoed toward her office but stopped abruptly at the doorway.
Liam was still there.
The man leaned against her desk, an unlit cigarette between his fingers.
Hearing her approach, he looked up.
Their eyes met, and Vivian immediately turned to flee.
"Stop."
His low voice cut through the air as Liam caught up to her in a few strides.
When he grabbed her wrist, she struggled like she'd been electrocuted.
"Let go! I'm not that kind of woman!"
Her voice trembled with unshed tears, eyes rapidly reddening.
Liam loosened his grip but still encircled her slender wrist.
"I know," he said quietly. "I crossed a line earlier."
Vivian looked up in surprise, meeting his deep gaze.
There was no mockery in his eyes, only unusual sincerity.
He released her and took a small glass bottle from his inner suit pocket.
"Medicine for your back injury." He paused. "It works well."
The cool glass bottle settled into her palm, still warm from his body heat.
Vivian clutched it, her fingers trembling slightly.
So he had waited here for this.
"I'm a normal man," Liam suddenly stepped closer, his voice dropping lower. "But you're different."
His warm breath brushed her ear, causing fine shivers.
She hastily retreated until her back pressed against the cold wall.
"Stay away from me..."
Her voice was almost inaudible.
Liam studied her for a moment before finally stepping back.
The air hung heavy with unfinished tension.
