Chapter 664
Vivian Bennett's body trembled violently.
Her face instantly turned as pale as paper.
A flicker of pain, difficult to conceal, flashed in the depths of her eyes.
She tugged at the corner of her mouth, revealing a cold smile.
"Deserved it? Hah. Even if I truly deserved it, it's not your place to lecture me."
"Enough, both of you, stop it!"
Oliver Winston hurriedly stepped forward to interrupt the impending argument.
His tone carried a hint of anxiety.
"The doctor said her body hasn't recovered yet. Her emotions shouldn't be agitated. Can't you just indulge her a little?"
He had just managed to intervene on this side.
But on the other side, Sophia Miller's eyes were already reddening.
Her voice choked, almost breaking.
"Vivian, you can treat them however you want. But what about me? I've always been sincere and good to you, cared for you. Have you forgotten all that?"
"When you fell from the footbridge, I was the first to take you to the hospital. I stayed by your side day and night, afraid you'd do something rash. I tried all sorts of ways to tell jokes, to make you laugh..."
Vivian's words were like a knife dipped in ice.
They plunged straight into Sophia's heart.
She had never imagined that the best friend she treasured so much would view their friendship this way.
Sophia felt a suffocating ache in her chest.
Being looked down upon by the person she trusted most was more painful than being cut by a blade.
"Every time you were sad or hurt, I was there with you. They all sided with Liam Sullivan. Only I always stood by your side, felt indignant on your behalf..."
"But now you say I have ulterior motives, that my feelings are fake..."
Tears streamed down Sophia's face.
Her voice trembled.
"I truly considered you my best friend. How could you hurt me like this..."
After saying this, she could no longer hold back.
Covering her face, she turned and rushed out of the hospital room.
Ethan Roscente's face was livid with anger.
He glared fiercely at Vivian before quickly following Sophia out.
Oliver watched Sophia's tearful retreating figure.
A surge of anger rose in his own heart.
"Just because you're injured, you have to hurt everyone else? Trampling on the hearts of those who genuinely care for you... Do you feel no guilt at all?"
Vivian's pale lips moved slightly.
They curved into a mocking arc.
"You brought this upon yourselves. Who told you to be his people? I hate him. And I hate all you self-righteous 'do-gooders'."
"You..." Oliver was so angry he was speechless.
In the end, he only gritted his teeth and spat out three words.
"Utterly unreasonable!"
He turned away, filled with disappointment.
He decided he would no longer bother with this woman who had been driven to such a distorted state by her pain.
The hospital room suddenly fell quiet.
A deathly silence pressed down, making it hard to breathe.
The sarcastic smile on Vivian's face gradually faded.
Only a hollow paleness remained.
She sat numbly on the edge of the bed.
Her gaze was unfocused.
Outside the window, the sunlight was bright.
Golden rays spilled over her body.
Yet they couldn't dispel the chill deep in her bones.
She didn't know if what she was doing was right.
But rather than letting them suffer for her in the future, it was better to sever everything now.
Let them dislike her first. Let them stay away from her.
This way, she wouldn't have to carry so much guilt and attachment anymore.
She was truly too tired.
Too exhausted to have the strength to respond to anyone's kindness anymore.
After lying still for a while, she slowly pushed herself up.
With great difficulty, she moved to get off the bed.
Her chest still ached faintly.
Every movement tugged at her nerves.
Yet she clenched her teeth.
Not uttering a sound, she began to pack her things.
There wasn't really much to pack.
Nothing here truly belonged to her anyway.
She picked up her medical records and documents.
Leaning against the wall, she moved step by step out of the room.
The corridor in the VIP ward area was empty and cold.
Not a single person was in sight.
She slowly walked to the elevator.
Pressed the button.
Waited quietly.
While waiting, she suddenly felt a gaze fixed on her from behind.
But when she sharply turned around, she only saw the empty corridor.
Nothing was there.
Probably just being overly paranoid.
She gave a self-mocking tug at the corner of her mouth.
She went to the doctor's office to get her medication.
Completed the discharge procedures.
Alone, she walked out of the hospital's main entrance.
Hailed a taxi.
Gave the address of her studio apartment.
The car slowly drove away from the hospital.
She leaned against the car window.
Watched the street scenes speeding past outside.
Her eyes were utterly still.
When she arrived at her apartment building, she saw Grace Harper standing at the entrance.
Grace looked anxious, peering around.
Upon seeing Vivian get out of the car, she immediately hurried forward to meet her.
